Volunteering Descriptions

School Day Volunteering

Classroom Volunteer ~ Helping out your child’s teacher as needed on a regular basis or for special projects.  Examples include helping with small group activities, reading groups, worksheets, kindergarten “centers”, cutting and pasting, clean up, etc.  Typical time commitments are 30-60 minutes per “shift”. Teacher sign-ups for times/days will be done via mysignup.com.
Extra-curricular Volunteer ~ Help with drama and art club (alternating years) after school.
Teacher Workroom ~ Help teachers and staff by binding, laminating, taking down and hanging up artwork, cutting, gluing, pasting, etc.  This is a great opportunity to help the teachers and staff so they can focus on teaching our children.  Morning and afternoon times are available.

Event Volunteering

Book Swap ~ Assist in the collection of gently use books and prepare the library for the book swap.  Day of volunteers escort classes to the library and help students to “shop the swap.”  Time commitment varies based on tasks & shifts.
School Pictures ~ Escort classes to the photo location at their scheduled time, facilitate completion of student forms if necessary, direct students waiting for pictures. Half or full-day commitment.
Hearing/Vision ~ Assist the school nurse with screening. Training is provided (Half-day commitment).
Scholastic Book Fair ~ Help set up/take down displays during the Book Fair in October. Work morning and/or afternoon cashier shifts, also evening shifts during conferences.
Staff Appreciation ~ Show the teachers and staff how much we value them. Set-up and clean-up, decorate, or bring a dish to one of several appreciation events.
Hospitality ~ Help provide meals for teachers during parent teacher conferences in October and February.
Head Party Parents (each classroom) ~ Work with the other head party parents in your grade level to plan Halloween and Valentine’s parties that are consistent across classrooms.  This role also coordinates the volunteers for each party within their respective classroom.
Party Parents ~ Work with the head party parent to help prepare crafts, games, and treats; it may also involve helping out in class during the party.

Family Events

Carnival – Work with other parents to throw our biggest event of the year. A year-end celebration with many jobs, big and small—grab a friend, join the team and have fun!

Ongoing Fundraisers

Box Tops ~ Trim Box Tops turned in by families, count and submit for reimbursement.
Hy-Vee’s Cash 4 Students ~
Spirit wear ~ Spread school spirit with the sale of Spring Ridge logo items. Work with the apparel company on design and available products.  Help with the collection of orders and distribution of products.  This is done at the beginning of the year and is optional during the second semester.

Direct PTO Service

Nominating Committee (2-3) ~ This committee of 2-3 people identifies potential candidates for the positions of Vice President(s), Treasurer, and Secretary.  The slate of nominees is presented and voted on each spring.

Virtual Volunteering

Directory ~ The student directory is a valuable communication resource for families. Help with formatting the actual data or soliciting local businesses to purchase advertising space in our directory.
Classroom Photo Contributor ~ Work with the yearbook committee to take pictures are various school events, including classroom parties, field trips, and other classroom activities.
